SNMP Utilities

The following table summarizes the SNMP commands which can be used to set values or request information from the MIB objects on the local host or on other SNMP agents reachable over the IP networks.

To retrieve the value of an object from a network entity.

snmpget

To set information on a network entity.

snmpset

To retrieve management information from a network entity.

snmpstatus

To retrieve the values of all objects under a particular location in the MIB object hierarchy tree. Use to obtain the values of all the objects under the system and interfaces nodes.

Note

The retrieval of a complete subtree is referred to as "walking the MIB."

snmpwalk

The SNMP utilities are located in the directory /usr/bin.
