Configuring Surround Sound Audio
To configure surround sound audio using a single Audio Encoder:
- From the Audio Encoders List View, click the Settings icon in the audio encoder panel you wish to modify.
For the Codec, select either MPEG-2 ADTS, MPEG-4 LOAS/LATM, or 16-bit Pass-through.
Note
Dolby AC3 and E-AC3 audio is also supported using the 16-bit Pass-through Codec.
For details, see Configuring AC3 and E-AC3 Pass-Through Audio.- Select the SDI audio source you would like to use from the Input Interface dropdown, for example, SDI-1.
Select the Channel Mode from the dropdown list. To play the audio in surround sound, select 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 7.0 (16-bit Pass-Through only) or 7.1; these modes all use three or more channels to process the audio input.
For example, selecting 5.1 as the channel mode will use 6 audio channels (or 3 audio channel pairs).Note
The Channel Mode determines:
- The number of channels used by the audio encoder,
- The expected upstream channel assignments from the SDI audio input, and,
- The channel order assignments that will be sent to (and preserved on) the audio decoder.
See Surround Sound Audio for details on audio decoder channel assignments.
See Audio Encoder Settings > Channel Mode for details on expected upstream channel assignments.Select the set of Input Channels on which to assign the Channel Mode.
Note
The Input Channel options will change automatically depending on the required audio channels of the selected Channel Mode.
In this example, channel mode 5.1 is selected, which requires six audio channels, therefore, the available input channels have been grouped into sets of six.Select the Bitrate (in kbps) from the dropdown menu. This field will not appear if your Codec is set to 16-bit Pass-Through, in which case the bitrate is a fixed number determined by the number of channel pairs carried.
Note
The Bitrate options will change automatically depending on the Channel Mode and Sample Rate.
This example shows the available bitrates for a 5.1 Channel Mode with a Sample Rate of 48kHz (range: 20-1440 kbps).- Type in the Language, or select it from the dropdown menu.
To apply your changes, click Apply.
- To connect this audio encoder to a stream, see Configuring Streams.
