Recordings not appearing after a power outage or with low disk space

A recording file may not be closed properly if power is lost on the device or disk space is too low while recording. In some cases the recording can be recovered and closed properly.

  1. Access the Console UI via SSH or by connecting a keyboard and monitor directly to the appliance.

  2. Log in to the Console UI and select Terminal from the menu.

  3. Access the failed recording in the appropriate /assets/archive/<channel name>/<timestamp> directory.

  4. If a file with a .tmp extension appears, run the following command to attempt recovery of the recording:

    mp4format <option> <source file> <destination file>, where <option> is either:

    • -MoovFirst which recovers without deleting the source file.

    • -MoovFirstDelSrc which recovers and deletes the source file.

If recovering is successful, the resulting .mp4 file should appear in the Recordings screen. To avoid this from reoccurring:

  • Ensure there is always adequate disk space as described in Managing Recording Disk Space.

  • Avoid any sudden power loss prior to stopping the recording.
