Copy of Evaluation Kit Overview v1.3 fixes

The Makito X4 Encoder Integrator's Board assembly can be used as a two-board or three-board solution. The two variations differ in how they are powered. The two-board solution uses +12V DC conditioned power. The three-board solution uses +16-35V DC power compliant to MIL-STD-1275E.

The two-board and three-board assembly kits are shown in the following figures:

Two-Board Kit: CPU and Interface (carrier) boards
(Haivision p/n 084M090-501G)

Three-Board Kit: CPU, Interface (carrier), and PSU boards
(Haivision p/n 084M090-500G)

References to the "encoder," "Integrator's Board," or "Evaluation Kit" can be taken to include both the two-board or three-board solution unless specifically stated otherwise.

Makito X4 Functionality

The Makito X4 Encoder Integrator's Board combines the low latency and performance of the Makito X4 encoder in a small form-factor with full KLV/CoT metadata support. It supports four video input channels and delivers AVC/H.264 and HEVC/H.265 video from analog and digital sources.

The Makito X4 encoder Integrator's Board provides connectors for connecting the encoder's Network interface(s), as well as the Video, Audio, Serial, and Power inputs. It supports either one 12G-SDI 4K/UHD video input, or four 3G-SDI inputs, along with three or four analog composite CVBS (NTSC/PAL/PAL-M) inputs.*

Note

Only SDI 1 can support input up to 6/12G-SDI video. All the other inputs support up to 3G-SDI.

*The number of CVBS inputs supported depends on the carrier type. You can confirm the carrier type information from the haiversion command or the Admin Status page (Status Settings). "Makito 4KR" indicates the three-input variant, whereas "Makito 4KR 12G" indicates the four-input variant.

The Serial port is used to ingest KLV/CoT, as a management port or as pass-thru for camera control.

As of Release 1.2, both Network 1 and Network 2 ports are live.

The Ethernet and audio/serial breakout cables are shipped as part of the Evaluation Kit (#S-MX4E-R-SDI4-ISR-DK).

Fan and Heat Sink

Customers must supply a fan for the Integrator's Board. Airflow required is 150-200 Linear Feet per Minute (lfm).

A heat sink is included in the kit and must be installed on the FPGA of the CPU card assembly. To prevent overheating, the heat sink dissipates heat from the processor.  The part number for the heat sink kit is Haivision p/n 084K075-900G. A special tool to detach the heat sink is included in the kit.

Encoder Inputs

The Makito X4 encoder has four (4) dedicated Video Inputs. Each of these inputs is internally linked to two (2) encoder instances for a total of eight (8) encoders, by default.

A typical example is a full quality SD/HD stream with HD Video Encoder 0 and a thumbnail sample of the same stream with HD Video Encoder 4 at lower bitrates and/or resolution. Both HD Video Encoders on the same connector can stream at different locations.
