Product Overview

Note

Transcoding is defined as the process of converting an encoded media stream or object from one format to another. This may be done in cases where a target device (or workflow) does not support the format, has limited network bandwidth or storage capacity that mandates a reduced stream size, or to convert incompatible or obsolete data to a better supported or modern format.

Originally designed as an IP video transcoder, Kraken is now a comprehensive software-based encoding, transcoding, and stream routing platform that aggregates feeds and optimizes transport of live Full Motion Video (FMV) and metadata. Kraken has evolved and developed to address the challenges inherent to many ISR video distribution topologies, including:

  • Unpredictable (and limited) bandwidth in deployed/first mile ISR video contribution systems,
  • Preservation of video quality and latency at very low bandwidths in real-time,
  • Downstream compatibility, i.e., the need to bridge systems with disparate video capabilities,
  • KLV metadata processing requiring advanced processing capabilities.
