Creating a LIVE Stream Media Object
Last updated on Dec 17, 2020
- In VCMS, hover over the Navigation sidebar to expand the Main menu and select the Media option.
- Click the Create Media button.
- When the Create media dialog opens, in the Title field enter a title for your media.
- In the Upload File field, either enter a streaming URL for your source content, or click the Browse link to navigate to a local video file to upload. You can also drag a file from your local file explorer to the field to begin uploading the file.
- Click Next.
- When the screen appears, click the Files tab.
- Next, click the Filename (listing).
On the File Details screen, click the File Location field and enter the URL of the master manifest file that is generated by the encoder when the stream is live. This is often called “playlist.m3u8” or “master.m3u8” (or some other file name with an “m3u8” file extension).
Important
Be sure to include the http/https script switches “{ssl:s:}” in the appropriate place. See examples that follow. Typically what you receive from the CDN doesn't include this. However, this allows automatic switching from http:// to https:// depending on whether your asset is being consumed in a browser session or in an iFrame that has an SSL requirement.
- Next, scroll down and click the Live Stream dropdown menu and select Yes.
- Also, verify that the Content Type field is set to Video.
- When finished, click the Save Changes button.
- Return to the Media Details screen for your asset. You can use the breadcrumbs above the filename.
- On the Media Details screen, click the Publish & Share button at the top right.
- In the Publish & Share dialog, click Live Stream checkbox. Note: Options may vary depending on your configuration.
- Click Submit.
