Adding Widgets

You can add customized widgets to any dashboard to visualize the data collected by the HVC analytics engine. There are variety of widget types available from which to choose:

  • Over Time — Change over time charts show data over a period of time, such as trends or comparisons across multiple categories.
  • Top Ranking — Ranking charts show an item’s position in an ordered list.
  • Part-to-Whole — Part-to-whole charts show how partial elements add up to a total.
  • KPI — KPI charts show raw singular values.
  • Table — Table charts show data points across multiple dimensions.
  • Flow — Flow charts show movement of data between multiple states.
  • Geospatial — Map charts display data of a region.
  • Distribution — Distribution charts show data frequency in a dataset.
  • Text — Text chart displays custom text in your dashboard.

Adding a Widget

To add a widget to a dashboard:

  1. Select a dashboard from the My Dashboards section of the sidebar.
  2. Navigate to the titlebar of the selected dashboard and click the button at the top of the dashboard and select a widget type.



  3. Choose the metric(s) you want to include from the menu under Metrics. This scrollable menu gives you a choice of over 60 metrics (hover your cursor over a metric to see a description).
  4. If appropriate, click the Add Metric button to include additional metrics in the widget display. Your choices are reflected in the preview of the widget.



  5. Click the pencil icon to edit the name of the widget.
  6. By default, widgets use the dashboard settings for timeframe, granularity, and so forth; but you can specify unique parameters using the controls at the top.
  7. When finished, click Apply.

The widget is added to your dashboard.


Modifying a Widget

To change a widget's settings:

  1. Locate the widget you wish to modify and click the Settings button.

  2. In the widget editor, edit the same fields you specified in its creation.

  3. Click the Widgets button in the sidebar to change the widget type.
  4. There are several other actions you can take on widgets. These actions are available for each widget in the Options  button to the right of the title bar.

    • Click Expand to see a full screen display of the widget.

    • Click Clone to create a copy of the widget on the same dashboard.

    • Click Export > CSV to download a copy of the widget data in .csv format.

    • Click Export > PNG to download a copy of the widget in its current state as an image.

    • Click Export > PDF to download a copy of the widget in its current state in .pdf format.

  5. When finished, click Apply.

Tip

The Widget editor allows you to try out various metrics and dimensions in real-time. By changing the filters applied, you can view how different aspects of your service behave in relation to others — allowing you to effectively discern which metrics/dimensions are most relevant for your purposes and display those.



Moving a Widget

To change a widget's position on the dashboard:

  1. Click and hold the widget's "handle" .
  2. Drag it to its new position and release it.

Deleting a Widget

To delete a widget:

  1. Locate the widget you wish to delete and click its Options button.
  2. From the menu that appears, click Delete.

Warning

There is no confirmation dialog window for this action. The widget is permanently removed as soon as you click Delete.
