Configuring Secure Reliable Transport (SRT)

Haivision's Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) streaming protocol is designed to provide reliable and secure end-to-end transport between two SRT-enabled devices (such as Makito X Series encoders and decoders) over a link which traverses the public Internet. For more information, see Secure Reliable Transport (SRT).

To create an SRT connection:

  1. Make sure the encoder and decoder are accessible from the public Internet by appropriate configuration of any firewalls.
  2. Set up an SRT stream on the encoder by following the steps in Setting Up Streaming Outputs, and Configuring Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) (in the Makito X4 Encoder User's Guide).
  3. In the decoder, go to the Streams section and add a new stream. See Configuring Streams
  4. Select TS over SRT for the Protocol, and set the Mode.
  5. Configure the SRT Settings. For more details, see SRT Stream Settings.
  6. To use encryption, turn the Encrypted toggle on and enter the passphrase. This passphrase must match the corresponding passphrase entered in the encoder.
To enable Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data (AEAD), select the authentication type from the Authentication drop-down menu.

    Note

Authentication options in Caller and Rendez-vous modes are None (default) or AES-GCM. Authentication options in Listener mode are Auto (default) or AES-GCM.
Setting the authentication to Auto allows the Listener to accept Callers with authentication set to either None or AES-GCM. Listeners with the authentication set to AES-GCM will only accept Callers which are also set to AES-GCM.

  7. When applicable, turn on the SRT Access Control toggle and fill in the necessary parameters. See Configuring SRT Access Control
  8. After you have configured the SRT Settings, click Apply Changes
  9. Once you establish the SRT stream, check the statistics and make adjustments to fine-tune the stream. In the Streams section, click the More Options icon on the far right and select Statistics to see how the SRT stream is performing.
