Haivision Helper is a cross-platform (Windows and macOS) utility that allows for the launching of the appropriate version of a desktop application from your Haivision product to the user’s desktop. For example, Helper supports Haivision Media Platform (HMP) multicast and low-latency video playback to the desktop/browser. Helper may also be installed to deliver the InStream player from the Furnace IPTV system to the desktop.

What is Haivision Helper?

Haivision Helper was originally designed as a secure alternative to the Java-based VF Agent. It builds upon the successful concept and benefits of the InStream player, performing the same functions without using Java. The principle behind Haivision Helper is similar to that of other widely deployed "helper apps", such as those by Google, Microsoft, Spotify and Citrix, that use a web-browser to launch a more capable native app.

Like its Java-based predecessor, Haivision Helper offers two key advantages:

• It spares users from having to choose and to manually install the correct version of software for their specific platform.
• It allows updates to be managed centrally on a secure Haivision server.
